This is just a short little post to announce that Countdown To Win is put on hold untill further notice. The reason for this is that there are some problems with the business model that I am thinking how to work out. Quite honestly, with the new handymanedge.com project going I have not put any effort into Countdown To Win for quite some time. This does not meant that it will not come back. I have no timeline for it but I would like to bring it back at some point. I still feel that it really has potential but it just does not work at the moment and I do not have time to make it work at the moment. Add a comment

The Safetly Net is Still There - My Business as a Backup Plan

This is a follow up to my post on April 28th. I will recap a little first. I wrote about my current struggles and how it felt like what i thought was my backup plan just didn't seem to be backing me up. However, I am happy to write that I was wrong. It turns out that I did not give it enough time to see results before I posted that.

I've got my own back

I am now confident that my offline business is a 100% safety net. I am totally confident now that I can go back to it whenever I need to. This is such a relief because I know now that I can start any other business or pursue any other project and have the complete confidence that I do not have to resort to getting a job if things don't turn out how I expect. I have not had a job in many years so that has never really been a fall back plan for me and I never wanted it to be one either. It is good to know that I have a business that I can control completely. I have an imaginary dial that I can turn up if I need more money and turn down if I need more time to pursue other projects. It's amazing to think that it can work like that but it completely does.

The difference between a job and a business as a fallback

There are so many advantages of having a business as a fallback instead of a job. If I had to go work at a job during hard times I would never have the flexibility and courage to start new businesses. I would be tied down for 8 hours a day which would leave me tired and worn out by the time I got home, I would make less money, and I would probably fall into the false security "trap" that a job offers. I have seen it before and it was enough to make me never want to go back.

With a business, however, I completely turn everything around. I would have complete flexibility, I would make more money in less time, and I would have true security knowing that I control my life. In addition, I could have more time and energy to get back to starting new businesses and pursue other projects.

What is your safety net?

When life gets tough we run back to what we know is safe. If you know a job as being safe then you will run straight back to that. If you have reprogrammed your brain into knowing that a business is safe then you will run back to that. I feel much more confident in myself knowing that I can control my life in this way. Additionally, it gives me much more confidence to start another business because I don't view business as being risky anymore. By the way, I don't have to sell the Escalade anymore :)

On February 10, 2010 I posted a picture of the alexa rank for Countdown To Win. I just checked the new rank and thought it would be nice to update it here so you can see how the site grows. It improved drastically but there is still a long way to go. I have no idea where I would like to see it but if I had to throw a number out there I would have to say I would like to see Countdown To Win rank in the top 1000's. If and when it reaches that goal I will set a new goal.
